NIOH and NIOH 2 is a very complex sword based game. I’m shocked it wasn’t mentioned. Low mid and high stance. Switching in battle is very fluid. Very satisfying combat.

Ghost of Tsushima is amazing. The fact you can change stances mid-fight, selecting the combinations and the timing of slash with sound just astounds me. Admittedly, I have not played all the games on the list, but it is hard to divorce swordplay from all of the elements in GoT. I am thrilled with the graphics, the soundtrack and a phenomenal story-line. The entire package is what makes this my absolute favorite game of all time.

I think Sekiro has to be in front of the souls trilogy, it’s literally a FromSoft game focused on sword combat. Also a little surprised at the Nioh snub

Sekiro for me is the best sword fighting game and the posture system is one of the greatest mechanics to be ever introduced in gaming history.

Bushido Blade also was entirely unique in the fact that if I’m remembering right you could die with one hit. You had to take the game with a real world “if a sword hits me, I’m going to die”. You could take a hit or two but generally I wouldn’t count on it going in.

Yes for Ghost! One of my favorite games of all time. The different fighting stances make the combat much more interesting than other games. Thanks for making it #1!
