The DDR3 vs DDR4 ram plays a major role as well. I have a DDR3 2600mhz(OC)ram with my i7 4790k(OC 4.8ghz) and I get about 10-12 ish% better result compared to your benchmark (BFV and Metro exodus).

I’m happy with my 4790k. I keep it at 4.6GHz and have 32GB of 2400MHz RAM and a 1070. It handles everything I throw at it with flying colors and I’ve had the processor and ram since 2013-2014ish. I may upgrade in a few years cause I’ll have to justify new RAM and a new motherboard.

big thing to note- the 4790k is only utilizing about 60% of the GPU in most cases, with the 9700k actually using 80-100% of it. Ive got a 4790k, and can confirm this is true! Slightly unstable or jittery framerates in games, even with a Gsync 144hz monitor and a 1080ti, properly rendering 100+ fps- its my 4790k. I have friends who in the same game on the same setup, can nearly outperform my 1080ti with a mere 1070, or in some cases, a 1060 in more cpu intensive games while running a newer chip.

I upgraded from the 4790k to a 3700x and I can tell you there is a huge difference in the less amount of stutters I get in games at 1440p with the 3700x.
