couple things. RAM speeds are higher so more FPS with that also resolution factors here. curious if rams speeds were the same how similar these results would be.

for those saying that it seems not much has happened in six years; yes, the old i7 somewhat holds its own but this is against the cheapest intel core processor of today which runs at a roughly 10% lower clock speed and uses half the power. In 6 years we will see budget processors outdoing the current i7. That is actually quite a development.

honestly the i3 10100/f is such a good pick for gamers on a tight budget. this is where intel actually competes with amd, the budget processors

Most of the performance gain here is from DDR4. There is less than 10% IPC improvement between 4nd and 10th gen intel CPUs. The rest is explained by the increase in core count, clock speeds, and ram frequency.

Looks like the i7 is holding up decently to me. A good test from a budget perspective would be a xeon 1230 v3 since im sure those 4790k cpus go for a decent amount still.

If the goal was only to see processing improvements, the best would have been to put 2133MHz DDR4 RAM to the i3 cause here where are CPU bound and the old i7 still holds excellent which means at 4K it would still be monstrous. I believe the different RAM plays the major role here in favor of the i3.
