I am old enough to remember owning a legit copy of “Elite” for the Commodore 64. It came with a great, in-depth manual, a keyboard overlay, novella, and other cool stuff. Kudos to Frontier Developments for also trying to recreate that feel with “Elite: Dangerous”, with the excellent online flight manual, very reminiscent of the original release. The same can be said for the original “Bard’s Tale”, on 5 1/4” floppy discs.the included manuals were very themed to the game, and a great read. There is just something about getting something tangible with a game, which makes it feel more real. This is lacking in many modern games (as are games which are playable on day one, and games which are self-contained, and do not need “DLC”, which should have been part of the original, game release...). Insert “OK, Boomer” comments here (even though I was born a few years too late to be a “true” boomer... :) ).

I miss reading instruction manuals on the way home from buying a new game. Some had so much to read and really added a lot to the game like the halo ones, mgs ones etc

The most interesting thing I found when buying a game was buying a used copy of Castlevania Circle of the Moon and finding a copy of Bomberman GB in the box.

Back in the physical realm for PC (and C64, and earlier..), disk games we had all sorts of "feelies" included with all kinds of imbedded hints that were required to get through a game. The Sierra and LucasArts adventures were notorious for it. I remember finding the planet coordinates for Space Quest 5 while reading the included newspaper on the toilet.
