I’ve noticed, there’s a Walking Animation and a Running Animation in BM. These animations don’t ease into each other, rather, they snap from one to the other when you reach a certain speed. It feels off, and “FEEL” is a big part of this franchise.

Even at a glance, the difference in quality between the Monkey Targets is just astonishing. It’s been 20 years since the original, and somehow the water literally looks more basic and ugly than it ever did before. The mountains look straight out of a PS2 launch title and the saturation is cranked through the roof. Makes the old NAOMI architecture look cutting edge by comparison. What the hell has happened to SEGA?

How do you make a game 20 years later look worse than the original? Everyone is hyped that monkey ball is back but it’s honestly a bit embarrassing.

Graphically I think BM is fine but the lack of sparks, no sound/the ball speeding up when going fast, and the fact that they don’t tumble around uncontrollably is a huge bummer.

Honestly, I’m leaning towards the original. I feel like the graphics and art look better, and even the animations too, the monkeys in Mania feel stiff. In the original if you go fast the monkeys lose their balance in the balls, in Mania that doesn’t happen often. I can’t help but feel that some aspects were rushed.

3:33 is the biggest downground imo. No reflection in the lane, garish visuals, background details somehow look worse and the way the ball moves looks incredibly basic. They really dropped the ball on that one
