10 Game Difficulty Mechanics We All HATE

We love challenging games, but some games use lame tricks and annoying ways to make game difficulty unsatisfying.

In Civilization there is like 8 difficulty levels and the AI cheats in every single one of them except the 2nd easiest. So there is basically Easy, Normal, Hard, Harder, Very Hard, Cheater, Superman and Saitama

That #3. I totally relate to that. I will usually play a game on the easiest difficulty for a few reasons, for one, I do it so I can safely learn the mechanics of the game at my own pace and for another, I play games to enjoy the story, and a higher difficulty makes it harder to get from story part to story part.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark had more or less content depending on the difficulty mode, but it worked well. Every difficulty had additional objectives... and it made sense, cus a recruit would not be sent and expected to achieve what a 00 agent would be capable of. Mariokark 64 was really bad, where if you let 1st place get out of sight, they were gone. Toad passes you and you crash, he is 1/3 lap ahead all the sudden, and you gotta hope for nothing but stars and lightening bolts or theres no way you are catching them.

That cheating AI hit me hard. Especially in fighting games. Like the AI code can read your moves when you hit the button and then just block everything perfectly. So annoying.

One of the things i despise the most is that the A.I. in most shooting games has LASER accuracy. getting shot in the head from 200 meters by an A.I. with a handgun is absolutely infuriating.

Ghost of Tsushima has an amazing difficulty system. Lethal would make enemy hits actually lethal, but your blows are also very lethal.
