Book of Records: Glorious Firsts / War Thunder

  • In our previous Books of Records we already covered the fastest and the most well-armoured tanks, the most powerful guns and the most devastating munitions available in the game. At the end of the day, though, all of that was just equipment and hardware created by some extremely talented people… and today, instead of talking about specific vehicles, we’re going to talk about the most notable advances in military technology used to produce ground vehicles. Who made the first MBT? Who created the first night vision devices? What was the deal with the smoothbore gun of the T-62? Let’s go!

My personal favourite development was the invention of modern FPE. Every time a new tank was developed, regardless of if it was an almost 99% match to the previous one, it was 100% impossible to put out vehicle fires. So tank engineers had to find a way to redesign FPE having presumably burnt all design prints of the already existing ones upon the new tanks arrival.

The most impressive technologicsl advance to me, was when they found out how to make guns shoot without hitting the blades of the propeller.

The breakthrough that impressed me most is still relevant today. Dont waste, reuse. Just like the Germans with outdated tanks. Pz I take of the turret put a shield with a 47mm gun on it bam usable mobile AT gun. You build 100 tanks wich arent that good and the other companys design is choosen for production? Put a 20 cm casemate and a long 88 on it bam got Ferdinand. And so on. Many new and useful designs were made out of old outdated ones. Fantastic.
