I’m looking forward to this. I want something like the originals but upgraded. I’m fine with the simplistic approach with some modern upgrades. The chibi style is amazing. Legends will offer a different experience which I think is a great contrast and allows you to play both at once.

I sincerely love this art style, but, honestly, it’s embarrassing that we’ve yet to receive a true, modern day, HD Pokémon RPG. One that’s actually up to par technologically. I mean, Christ, the franchise is 25 years old. Get with it already!

There is a difference between “trimming the fat” and “gutting features” in a sequel or remake. To me, this seems a little closer to the latter than the former, which worries me. The first five Pokémon generations (Diamond and Pearl included) give the player so much to do and so many ways to interact with the world. It’s nice to see you can still make Poffins, slather Honey on trees, catch Pokémon in the Safari Zone, and dig for resources in the Underground. I think these things alone will make these games a lot more engaging than Sword and Shield, and the Switch’s best Pokémon game. However, Secret Bases and Contests were huge parts of the original Diamond and Pearl and it’s disappointing to see these aspects over simplified. It makes them less engaging and less fun. Additionally, there were revisions made in Platinum that objectively improved the game’s pacing and narrative that I worry aren’t going to be here (i.e. you can take on the Hearthome City Gym immediately when you reach it; Cyrus’s goals are less ambiguous; the inclusion of Looker). I really hope they retained the post-game’s Battle Frontier, and continue to give the player reasons to play after beating Cynthia.

Such a shame they limited secret bases. I remember spending hours in the underground stealing flags from my cousins base. I was really hoping to continue that with my wife who is new to the game. Hope there are other ways interacting with others besides helping mine.

There’s just nothing here for me to return to. It’s so faithful that I can’t justify spending the money to replay a game when I already own it. I was hoping for a SWSH like remake or at least the same effort at HGSS and ORAS. I’m very happy for everyone who is excited to play the remakes, I just wish I was too.

What I LOVE about HeartGold/SoulSilver on the Nintendo DS is that Pokémon Company could not alter the game(s) too much, because of the limitations of the handheld, even during that era. I feel that HG/SS for the NDS was the perfect remake and how a remake should be; A perfect rendition of the game that is being remade with just enough graphical upgrades that compliments the original art style and doesn’t stray too far from the original, along with extra content and or features.
